Dartboard Review…

“If you like Clive Cussler’s man’s man type adventures, you’ll really enjoy Dartboard. This book takes the main character on an adventure from his humdrum life as a small town cop to an action-packed trip through the Caribbean looking for lost gold. The book is full of surprises at every turn once Jimmy finds out he’s received an inheritance from his uncle Jackson. Turns out he gets a little more than he bargained for.

The story is full of sun, sand, exotic locales, and pretty girls. What more could you want? Oh, yes, there is plenty of suspense and adventure, too. What would you do if you were suddenly on the look out for buried treasure? Definitely worth a read. :) ” ~Editor Toni Rakestraw rated it 5 out of 5

Seventh Blessing Is A Charming Tale…

“I really like Melissa’s writing. Assured and affectionate, and her characters are brimming with…character! There is a lovely humour to the writing and I can see this would have real appeal to to the age group I feel is intended for. Strong commercial appeal – having a princess as your protagonist is a sure-fire winner when it comes to the readership. Yet there is a sophistication in her sentence structure and her use of language that will appeal to the vanity of the reader.” Editorial Review from Emily Thomas

“The Seventh Blessing by Melissa Buell is a charming story about a princess named Samantha. Samantha longs to do what is expected of her as a princess but the seven blessings she received as a baby keep getting in her way. She must learn to be true to herself while becoming the princess she is meant to be.

There are many things that I like about this book and the main character Samantha is definitely one of them. Samantha is a funny, smart and courageous character. She is wildly independent and also fiercely loyal. I loved reading about her journey of self discovery. Her gifts, unusual for a princess, make her a unique character. Her parents, King Bennett and Queen Adelaide are anxious for her to settle down. Samantha doesn’t share her parents opinion nor does she like her suitors, Prince Nolan and Prince Linden. I had so much fun reading the banter between Nolan and Samantha. They have a tumultuous history that makes their relationship complicated.

The story line in The Seventh Blessing is good. The story begins with Samantha receiving her blessings as a young infant, then we get to see certain periods in her childhood and how her ‘blessings’ affect her and those around her. Most of the story takes place when Samantha is a teenager. There are several themes in this book including being true to who you are, standing up for yourself, forgiveness and love.

Overall this is a great story. This would be the perfect fantasy book for middle grade and up. This book is full of action, adventure and a little romance. I really enjoyed this novel and I look forward to reading more about the Tales of Gymandrol.” ~M. Turner rated it 4 out 5

“Right from the beginning this story peaked my interest. It reads like an epic historical fantasy without all of the confusing and hard to remember names. Yes, there are a lot of characters in the book, but not too many where you lose track of who’s who and no one is introduced as filler or fluff, they are all there for a purpose in the storyline. I don’t read many princess tales because usually the princess is annoying, too prim, too proper, too much for me. Princess Samantha is none of those things – she is more Joan of Arc than princess and more realistic because of this. The story has a bit of A Knight’s Tale feel to it since she’s posing as someone she isn’t in order to enter competition, but her reasonings are always honorable. The love story isn’t overwhelming or one that I would roll my eyes at either, everything unfolds perfectly. I look forward to seeing where this story goes and who Princess Samantha becomes.” ~Book Sake rated it 4 out 5

“Loved it! Here’s the thing. I totally enjoy indie authors so when I was offered this for review I was excited. It’s YA and has Fairies! You can’t beat that!

I completely enjoyed this fantasy and the world building that was contained within the pages. I will admit to be slighty confused at first because it’s almost like a fast forward to what was going to come. But then once it “slowed” down I was totally drawn in.

I loved the main character Sam, with all her spunk and determination, she made an excellent chick! I think semi-tomboys would probably really enjoy this one.” ~Kris rated it 5 out 5

“The Seventh Blessing is very well paced. It starts when Samantha is born and steadies at the age of 18. I was able to see how Samantha grew to be the adult she’d soon become. While other girls are giggling softly and having long fingernails, Samantha is learning self-defense and becoming a knight. She’s not afraid to speak her mind and make sacrifices for others. The person she becomes is actually based off of accidental gifts. Each child is given an amount of fairy blessings based on the month they were born. Samantha was born in July which equals to seven blessings, but the blessings she received weren’t meant for a princess. The blessings were meant for a prince who would one day become a king.  When the power of fairies are scattered across different kingdoms there most likely be  chances of power abuse. With an unknown evil causing trouble no one is aware of but Nolan and his family.  Once upon a time, Samantha hated Nolan for all the times he got her in trouble and scold at for not acting lady-like. When that little boy grows up he learns a few things about smooth talking, which is somewhat close to his gift. Nolan and Samantha’s relationship was rough, really rough. At times I had a hard time figuring out how Samantha felt about Nolan, but I never doubted Nolan. I did find myself liking Nolan’s character, but I wanted just a little bit more from him.” ~VysBlog rated 4 out 5

“This is one of those books that you don’t want to put down, because you’ve got to see what’s going to happen next, what’s going to be said next. I found myself alternately chuckling and cringing at the characters’ antics – one minute things would be going so well, then, whoops! slip-up and it’s all a muddle again. Not to mention the fact there’s a lot of action going on! Why did I like this book so much? The characters and the backstory. Both added great depth and detail to a deceptively simple story. Sam is real – she gets confused, she gets her feelings hurt, she’s just like any other 18 year old girl. Well, you know, if every girl could have really awesome fairy gifts and be a princess. And the other characters are just as life-like — you’re definitely going to recognize someone in at least one of them! And Nolan…Oh, Nolan. He’s wonderful. I laughed at him, I cringed for him, I fell for him and cheered for him. So the characters are awesome. And the backstory? Equally so: Buell actually took the time to create a whole history that would explain the current situation/scenario. I love it when authors take the time to really ‘flesh out’ their worlds. It adds so much more depth and even a little mystery. Review originally published at my blog (A Word’s Worth); I received a copy for review from the publisher.” ~RivkaBelle rated it 4 out 5

Concealed Reviews Keep Coming In…

“A new author has been able to peak my interest even though this book was originally written for young adults. I was captured at the beginning of the story and continued to be anxious to see what would happen to the heroine next.” ~ Rowena Richardson rated it 5 out 5

“I’m usually not one for YA-fiction, but a friend was reviewing it and I happened to pick it up. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. The story seems well researched and I fell in love with all of the characters (villains included). I read an advertisement for the book about choosing sides, but after reading the first installment of this series, it’s a pretty tough choice. Maybe I’ll be able to decide after reading the 2nd book. You won’t be able to put it down, and the girls will fall in love with Sebastian…maybe even Niko (my friend did!).” ~Anonymous rated it 5 out 5

“Concealed is a powerful story about the Djinn and a love that should have never been. With a backdrop of a shadowy, unknown world, the story explores the human experience of finding yourself and having the courage to choose your own destiny. Sang stages the story in modern-day Sykesville, Maryland in a quiet suburb. She weaves an account of an unusual sixteen-year-old orphan, Bijou Fitzroy, and the dark world of the Djinn that normal human eyes cannot see. Is there a release date for the second book yet?” ~MaggieK_1012 rated it 5 out 5

“I was spellbound from her great storytelling, colorful yet complex characters, and couldnt help but laugh out loud at their sense of humor, besides the book being well written and captivating, it made me appreciate my culture even more, the mention of Liberia, mami wata, mandingo tribe and the names of the character gave Concealed an exotic edge that has its roots in Africa. It was exciting, and the magical yet realistic world Kromah creates will tramsport you to a world far beyond your imagination…I cant wait for Book 2!!!!” ~JeanetteDixon rated it 5 out 5

“First off, I’ll start by saying that the synopsis on the back of the book does not do this story justice. My younger sister’s high school book club was given Concealed to read, because apparently, the author went to her high school (Liberty High in Eldersburg, MD), where the book takes place.

I’m not one for social networking sites at all, but I finished reading Concealed about thirty minutes ago and I was so inspired to write. The book is told in first person narrative and as I read the story, I felt like these things were happening to me. I COULD NOT put Concealed down!

Concealed is the tale of a sheltered homeschooled sixteen year old, whose world is turned upside down when her grandmother abruptly moves them to this small Maryland town and enrolls her in high school for the first time. The MC, Bijou is like a walking train wreck, but very lovable and quite hilarious. She’s funny without trying to be, making me laugh out loud and get embarrassed for her all at once.

Kromah weaves a magical tale that sets the stage for what seems to be an epic series. The book redefines many of the creatures and stories we think we know, giving birth to a story that is truly unique and frightful at times.

While there are a few typos, it still did not take away from this epic tale.

What I loved so much about Concealed is the fact that no character is completely good or evil. You find yourself sympathizing for the so-called bad guys in many instances.

And I am quite girls will have a hard time deciding whether they’re “Team Sebastian” or “Team Niko”. I’m Team Sebastian all the way!

This is the best book I’ve read since The Lovely Bones. Bijou Fitzroy is my kind of girl…the type that wants to save herself!” ~Rachel Stephens rated it 5 out of 5

More Consumed Reviews….

“This is a fast moving, dark, sexy thriller as well as a measure of humor. The twists and turns in the plot will keep you on the edge of your mental seat. Many chapters will test your sensibilities. Do these things really happen? The ending is the twist of twists. You will want to read from start to finish so pick it up when you have plenty of time. Enjoy.” ~Anonymous rated it 5 out of 5

“Oh, the suspense! Wow…what a good story! I did not want it to end. Really enjoyed the author’s writing style. Looking forward to future good reads by these ladies.” ~Cheryl_Desmar rated it 5 out of 5

“This book was a great read and it keeps you on your toes and interested from beginning to end! To say it is simply a “thriller” is an understatement. It had twists & turns that you don’t see coming and I am eagerly awaiting the next collaboration from these authors. If this book were made into a movie I could easily see it bringing in a HUGE audience…” ~LHSBD rated it 5 out 5

“On the advice of a non-reading friend, I bought and read “Consumed”, finishing it just a couple of days ago. It was a good, enjoyable read, and it kept up the suspense right up to the end. Not only that, the premise was fresh and interesting. I am an avid reader who has read thousands of books in my lifetime, and I can truly say that this book stands out among the many I’ve read. I am not likely to forget the plot anytime soon! It was an excellent job for a first book, and I’m looking forward to reading more by these authors.” ~Laprofesora rated it 4 out of 5

“Rarely am I surprised by anything that calls itself “psychological thriller”. Unbelievable characters doing unbelievable things, brought together by dubious events culminating in a contrived “twist” of an ending; most thrillers are exercises in what could have been.

Consumed is different. Most strikingly, the twist at the end was one I never saw coming. Secondly, the burgeoning terror experienced by the two protagonists is expertly crafted. It simultaneously makes you want to close the book to end their suffering, while demanding that you read to find out what happens to them. The sex scenes are extremely racy, but with just enough ickiness and discomfort as to make them totally believable. The main characters are vibrant and worthy of your time and attention.

An overall excellent read!” ~McBain rated it 4 out of 5
